Searching the Whitman County Court Docket
Start with the right court before you hunt for a case. Whitman County Superior Court handles felonies. It also takes major civil matters, family and probate cases, guardianship, juvenile issues, and appeals from the lower courts. Misdemeanors, traffic tickets, infractions, small claims, and limited civil cases belong elsewhere. Those live in Whitman County District Court. Or they sit in a municipal court if the papers name one. Getting this wrong sends your docket search to the wrong shelf.
- Read the citation, notice, or pleading and identify the exact court.
- Use Odyssey Smart Search for Superior Court or Washington's District/Municipal search for a lower court.
- Enter a full case number when known; otherwise search the party name and add court, type, and date filters.
- Open the result and review case information, parties, events, disposition events, and hearings.
- Confirm a setting or request a document from the clerk or administrator who keeps that court's file.
Washington Courts warns that online case information can be incomplete or wrong. Limited-jurisdiction records may show up about 24 hours after the clerk enters them. Treat any docket search as a first step. The official court record at the clerk's office is what counts in the end.
Whitman County Dockets in Odyssey
The Odyssey Portal is the public window into Whitman County Superior Court case information. Its landing page gives you Smart Search, Search Hearings, and Judgment Search. Anyone can use it anonymously, with no registration. Coverage reaches nonconfidential, nonsealed cases only. The Whitman County Clerk controls access to actual documents, and county fees may apply. The portal's public search routes appear right on its official landing page.

Smart Search takes a case number or a party name. Enter names in "Last, First Middle" format. The advanced options let you pick Whitman County, case type, case status, a file-date range, judicial officer, and other role-based fields. A wildcard can finish a partial query. Be warned: only the first 200 records come back. With a common name, narrow the search instead of trusting that cap as the whole result set.
Inside a Whitman County Court Docket
A Whitman County court docket is an index plus a running history in date order. Odyssey results list Case Number, File Date, Type, Location, and Party Name. Open a case and you get tabs for Case Information, Party, Disposition Events, Events, and Hearings. The limited-jurisdiction search works a bit differently. An upcoming hearing may appear above the case summary and its detailed activity.
| Case number | The court identifier used to connect a search result, filing, setting, and copy request. |
|---|---|
| Parties | The State and defendant, plaintiff and defendant, or petitioner and respondent. |
| Case type and location | The subject category and court that determine the correct custodian. |
| Events | The dated register of filings, orders, notices, and court activity. |
| Hearings | Upcoming or past settings with type and other available calendar fields. |
| Disposition | The recorded result or present resolution, which should be checked against the signed order. |
The docket does not promise every document image. A line saying an order was entered is not the signed order itself. And a calendar entry never proves the hearing actually took place.
Two Whitman County Docket Systems
Whitman County runs separate public systems because each court level keeps its own records. The elected Whitman County Clerk holds Superior Court files. District Court administrators maintain limited-jurisdiction records at the Colfax and Pullman branches. Colfax Municipal Court keeps its own city docket. The state directory routes Albion, Colton, and Uniontown municipal functions through District Court. For lower courts, the District and Municipal Court Case Search asks for the court, case type, filing year, last name, and first name. It also offers separate case-number and business-name modes.

| Court layer | Main docket | Public route |
|---|---|---|
| Whitman Superior Court | Felony, major civil, domestic, probate, guardianship, juvenile, appeals | Odyssey Portal |
| Whitman District Court | Misdemeanor, traffic, infraction, small claims, limited civil | District/Municipal Case Search |
| Colfax Municipal Court | City traffic, criminal and gross misdemeanor, vehicle impound | State limited-jurisdiction search |
Courts That Keep Dockets in Whitman County
Whitman County Superior Court is the general-jurisdiction trial court. It sits at 400 N Main Street, Suite 210, in Colfax. District Court shares the building from Suite 130. It also operates from 325 SE Paradise Street in Pullman. Colfax Municipal Court holds sessions at 400 N Mill Street. Juvenile Court sits inside the Superior Court structure, under special access rules.
A contested District or Municipal Court judgment can be appealed to Superior Court. Qualifying Superior Court appeals go to the Washington Court of Appeals, Division III. Tribal courts are separate sovereign systems. They never appear in a county or state docket search. When a case seems missing, ask a few questions. Was it filed at another level, transferred, consolidated, or given a new appeal number?
Whitman Court Docket Number Code 38
A Washington Superior Court case number tells you its type and county. Legacy numbers start with a two-digit year. They add a one-digit case type, a five-digit sequence, and a final check digit. Odyssey-era numbers end with a two-digit county code. Whitman's code is 38. One official local civil report shows 24-2-00382-38. That number reads as year 24, civil type 2, then the sequence, closing with Whitman's 38.
- Type 1
- Superior Court criminal case.
- Type 2
- Superior Court civil case.
- Type 3
- Domestic case.
- Type 4
- Probate or guardianship case.
- Suffix 38
- Whitman County in the Odyssey format.
District and municipal case numbers can mix local digits, letters, and punctuation. A ticket number is not always the court case number. So never force the Superior Court code onto a lower-court search.
How to Find Court Dates and Settings
For a Superior Court hearing, open Odyssey Search Hearings and pick Whitman County. Hearing types include Civil, Criminal, Family, Probate, and Mental Health. You can also search by case number, party, business, attorney, judicial officer, or courtroom. A date range narrows it. Whitman County has a name for Odyssey. It calls the system its most current "Docket of Scheduled Hearings." For District or Municipal Court, use Find My Court Date. Choose the court, then type the first and last name from the papers. Finish the verification and search.

A continuance moves a setting without resolving the case. Compare entry dates and follow the newest notice or signed order. The Whitman County court dates page walks through the full calendar workflow.
When a Whitman Docket Search Is Empty
An empty result can mean several things. The wrong court level, a spelling variation, or a fresh clerk entry might be the cause. So might a broad query cut off at Odyssey's 200-result cap, a new appeal number, or a sealed record. Add Whitman County, case type, status, file dates, and an exact middle name. Try names with odd hyphens or spaces in both forms.
Still nothing? Call the office that holds the record. Superior Court records: the County Clerk at 509-397-6240. Superior Court scheduling: 509-397-6244. District Court answers at 509-397-6260 in Colfax or 509-332-2065 in Pullman, and Colfax Municipal Court at 509-397-3861. A no-result never proves anything about how a case came out.
Public Access to Court Dockets
Washington keeps court records open by default. GR 31 creates that presumption. Still, privacy rules, statutes, and court orders can limit what the public sees. When a record must come out of circulation, GR 15 controls destruction, sealing, and redaction. Redaction wins whenever only a piece of the filing needs protection. Family law files get extra privacy treatment under GR 22. So do protection orders, guardianship, and therapeutic court files. For juveniles, RCW 13.50.050 governs offense records and locks down most other juvenile justice material.
Core access rules:
GR 31 creates the court-record access framework.
GR 15 controls sealing and redaction.
GR 22 protects sensitive case categories.
RCW 13.50.050 governs juvenile-offense file access.
The Washington Public Records Act will not get you a court filing. Whitman County's public-records page says so plainly and sends those requests to the court itself. One more wrinkle: a case can sit in the public index while a sealed filing, a protected identifier, or a document image stays out of reach.
Whitman Court Docket Activity in 2025
How busy was the Whitman County Superior Court docket in 2025? The Washington Courts annual report puts total proceedings at 1,957. That figure sweeps in non-charge matters. It also includes matters filed with the Clerk. So it is not a tally of unique people, pending cases, or convictions. The civil side tells its own story: 402 resolutions. They split between 374 non-trial and 28 trial outcomes.
Handle limited-jurisdiction totals with care. Whitman District Court switched to CLJ-EJ on October 26, 2024, and the state warned the migration skewed some October reports and statewide figures downward. Caseload tables give you scale, never the result of any single docket.
Docket Records at the Clerk's Office
Jill Whelchel is the elected Clerk of the Whitman County Superior Court. Her office preserves Superior Court records across the board. That covers felony, civil, domestic, probate, guardianship, juvenile, and appeals from the lower courts. Viewing a public Superior Court file costs nothing during office hours. Copies can be requested several ways. Use email, a web form, mail, phone, or the counter. District and Municipal Court records have their own administrators.

Older Whitman Dockets Need Notice
The Clerk scans all new filings and many older ones. So even in person, the working file may be electronic. Records are kept indefinitely. Anything older than ten years sits in a secure vaulted location. It needs at least 24 hours' notice before you can view it, so send the case number and an exact document description ahead of time.
The Superior Court web request form asks for your name, case number, the document or information you want, mailing address, phone, and email. The Clerk replies with the cost and how it will be delivered. It quotes no fixed turnaround. Want a transcript of oral proceedings? That comes from a court reporter, not the Clerk. The Clerk's fee schedule instead lists an audio or video copy of a hearing.
Whitman Community Court Docket Events
Whitman County Community Court is a treatment-based alternative aimed at the mental-health or substance-use conditions behind criminal conduct. County materials lay out the parts: supervision, case managers, counseling, life skills, recommended education or vocational services, accountability, and restitution. Sessions run in Colfax and Pullman.
There is no separate searchable specialty-docket inventory published by the county. Review or progress events tend to appear under the underlying criminal case number. Treatment or health details can be restricted. Pre-charging diversion is a different animal entirely. A successful participant may never enter formal proceedings. That leaves no docket to search at all.
Whitman Cities and Their Court Routes
Size does not decide whether a Whitman County city runs its own court. Pullman is the county's largest city. Yet the state directory lists no separate Pullman Municipal Court. Palouse, Tekoa, and St. John get the same answer. Readers in those cities should follow the court named on the citation. For a limited matter that usually means the Whitman District Court route. Colfax stands apart with its own independent Municipal Court.
The District Court's branches in Colfax and Pullman mirror the county's spread-out rural geography. City Hall may hold administrative or ordinance records. A filed case belongs with the court custodian. That line matters. A city page or a payment balance is one thing; the court's register of actions is another.
Whitman County Court Dockets by City
Whitman County's city docket pages line up with Washington OFM's ranking. That ranking covers incorporated places. It uses the April 1, 2024 population count. Five pages in all. Each one starts at street level, checking whether the city runs its own municipal court. From there, county-filed cases get routed to District or Superior Court. Anything beyond city authority lands there too. The cards below cover the same city set the rest of the site uses, so nothing is left out of the docket search.

Using Whitman Docket Offices in Person
A portal can find the case but not the filing. When that happens, go to the counter. The Clerk's counter in Colfax is Suite 235. There the public views Superior Court records at no charge during business hours. Hours run 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with a possible noon to 1 p.m. closure. Whitman County District Court keeps two branches. Colfax sits in Suite 130. Pullman is at 325 SE Paradise Street. Both open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays. They close noon to 1 p.m. and on federal holidays.
Call before you drive. County relocation notices show offices shifting. They move among the main courthouse area, the Public Service Building, the Warwick Building, and the former Pullman City Hall facility. A docket file may sit at a counter far from the courtroom. Department pages carry the best current addresses. Check them first. Many courts offer a public-access terminal, the state notes. Whitman does not publish how many terminals it has or when they are open. Ask the clerk whether one is free and whether staff must authorize document viewing.
Remote hearings work on a separate track from records. Whitman County Superior Court posts Zoom details, including meeting ID 658 568 9002. An audio-only caller's phone number can show up. You can ask to conceal it at least 24 hours ahead through the Superior Court administrator at 509-397-6244. Joining by link grants no right to record and no copy of the proceeding. Need an interpreter or other help? Use the Superior Court Language Assistance Plan resources, or call the court before the hearing. Parking, screening, and locker rules are not posted in detail, so confirm those too.
